Research Standards

1. Independent perspectives

The council examines each name from independent analytical perspectives, each working from its own data. “No edge” is a valid answer.

2. Public and licensed sources only

Every input is public or licensed: company filings on SEC EDGAR, insider and institutional disclosures, transaction reports that members of Congress file under the STOCK Act, licensed market data, public macro series and published news headlines.

3. No material non-public information

We do not seek, accept or use material non-public information. If we receive information that may be material and non-public, we set it aside and do not use it.

4. What every conclusion carries

  • A conclusion: Constructive, Cautious or No edge.
  • The reasons for and against.
  • The source behind each number. A number without a source is not used.
  • Dated falsifiers: what would prove the conclusion wrong, and by when.

5. Editorial review

Hide Capital reviews every conclusion, its reasons and its sources before it is published. Nothing is published without our approval.

6. Corrections

When we find a material error, we correct it publicly — in the Journal or in the report concerned — and say what changed and when.

7. Conflicts of interest

If, at the time of publication, the operator of Hide Capital owns, or has short or derivative exposure to, a security covered in a report, the report says so.

8. Limits

Research can be wrong. How the research is produced and where it can fail are set out in the Terms and the Risk Disclosure.

9. Measurement

Conclusions are measured against the S&P 500 over time. This is a discipline for finding where the process fails, not a claim of results.
