DAL Misses EPS Estimate by $0.05 but Revenue Tops Forecast

DAL reported EPS of $1.72 vs a $1.77 estimate on Oct. 9, while revenue of $20.20 billion exceeded the $17.64 billion consensus by 14.49%.

DAL was the only company with a market value of at least $10 billion in the Oct. 9 earnings calendar to report results. The company posted earnings per share of $1.72 on Friday, Oct. 9, compared with a consensus estimate of $1.77, a shortfall of $0.05, or 2.82%.

Revenue told a different story. DAL reported revenue of $20.20 billion, above the $17.64 billion estimate by about $2.56 billion, or 14.49%. The company's current market capitalization is about $50.51 billion. The earnings calendar does not indicate whether the results were released before or after the trading session.

DAL did not appear among the day's five largest large-cap gainers or losers. That list was led by PLTR, up 5.17%, and ORCL, up 4.21%, on the upside, and by T, down 10.82%, and VZ, down 10.14%, on the downside.

Across the broader market, SPY rose 0.60% to 778.57 and DIA gained 0.87%. The Industrials sector fund XLI added 0.51% to 169.25, and nine of the 11 sector funds finished higher. Real Estate (XLRE) led with a 1.86% gain, while Communication Services (XLC) was the weakest, down 1.51%. The 10-year Treasury yield stood at 5.24%.

The report came ahead of a heavier earnings week. CNBC published “Cramer's week ahead: Earnings kick off as banks and chipmakers face big tests.” Separately, Reuters reported “Christian-conservative wireless provider Patriot Mobile files for US IPO” and “Base Electron confidentially files for US IPO.”
